1. Storing Upholstered Furniture Properly

  • Ideal: Store upholstery cushions in a dry, well-ventilated room (garage, basement, attic).
  • Important: While protective covers are practical, they can pose risks if used incorrectly.
  • Never pull them over damp furniture or upholstery → otherwise, mold may form.
  • Use only when everything is completely dry → furniture and cushions must be completely dry.
  • Do not cover items airtight for extended periods → trapped moisture can damage the material and upholstery.
  • Alternative: Store upholstery in a garage or basement; if necessary, place furniture under a cover.
  • Tip: Clean the upholstery before storing it, let it dry completely, and store it preferably in breathable protective covers or cotton covers.

2. If upholstery must be stored outdoors over the winter

  • Use weatherproof covers, but only if the upholstery and furniture are completely dry.
  • Caution: Moisture under the cover can lead to mildew stains or mold.
  • Practical tip: Air them out occasionally to prevent condensation from forming.

3. Storing Furniture Over the Winter – Plastic (PE/PP) & Other Materials

  • Polyethylene furniture (e.g., Vondom, MyYour, Serralunga, Slide Design): Can be left outside over the winter without any problems. After winter, simply clean it with a pressure washer—the furniture will look like new again.
  • Lacquered polyethylene furniture: Only suitable for outdoor use to a limited extent. Recommendation: Use indoors whenever possible to preserve quality and appearance.
  • Metal: (e.g., Sifas): Apply rust protection (for metal) before winter.
  • PP & PE furniture: The multi-surface cleaner ensures gentle and thorough cleaning.
  • Teak furniture: Use the Cleaner & Refresher Kit to refresh the color, or the Cleaner & Sealer Kit for additional protection.
  • HPL furniture (e.g., Conmoto): Clean thoroughly before winter. Store on dry ground in a covered area, or cover with a breathable weather protection cover
  • Polyester wicker (e.g., Sifas): Use a breathable weatherproof cover or store on a covered patio
  • Cushions: Keep them hygienically clean and protect them from stains and moisture with a fabric cleaner and fabric protector.

4. Weather-Protection Covers – Protection with Style

  • High-quality protective covers not only shield against dirt and moisture but also preserve the aesthetic appeal of your patio.
  • Important: Check the covers regularly and do not leave them damp for extended periods.
  • To ensure a harmonious overall look, our manufacturers offer custom-fit covers, usually in gray.

5. Spring Kickoff – Getting Your Furniture Ready

  • After the winter break, clean your furniture with a mild cleaner or a pressure washer. Please ask us about the recommended cleaning method for your furniture!
  • Replace the cushions and treat them with a water-repellent spray if necessary.
  • Set up accessories (lamps, decorative items, tables)—and the outdoor season can begin.

Conclusion:

With the right care, your outdoor furniture will get through the winter with no problems.

  • Store cushions in a dry and secure place. Cushion chests and outdoor cabinets are particularly well-suited for this purpose.
  • Use weatherproof covers wisely
  • Simply clean plastic furniture with a pressure washer

This way, you’ll not only save money and effort but also extend the lifespan of your outdoor collection—and enjoy stylish moments outdoors year after year.
